SFC clears KOSPI listing review ahead of 1 trillion won IPO

The Samsung Display-backed supplier plans to float 5,000,000 shares representing 24.68% of its equity as it expands from blue dopants into semiconductor chemicals.

The Korea Exchange approved the preliminary listing application of electronic chemical materials vendor SFC on Oct. 16, 2026, clearing the OLED supplier for a late-November initial public offering on the KOSPI.

The Cheongju-based manufacturer produces blue host and dopant compounds used in organic light-emitting diode screens. It serves as the primary emissive materials vendor for Samsung Display, which holds a substantial equity stake in the company.

SFC plans to offer 5,000,000 new shares out of 20,257,078 total scheduled listed shares, representing 24.68% of its post-listing equity. Underwriters estimate the transaction will value the chemical producer at approximately 1 trillion won ($740 million).

Mirae Asset Securities is acting as lead underwriter, with Korea Investment & Securities serving as co-underwriter. The regulatory clearance arrived 55 business days after SFC submitted its preliminary review application to the exchange on July 24, 2026.

For the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026, SFC generated 160.8 billion won ($119 million) in annual revenue, regulatory filings show. The company posted an operating profit of 21.7 billion won and net income of 25.5 billion won during the twelve-month period.

Annual operating margin reached 13.5% during the fiscal year. Operating profit dropped 29% from 30.5 billion won a year earlier, reflecting heavier research spending and ongoing amortization expenses following an internal corporate merger, according to review filings.

Financial momentum recovered during the first fiscal quarter ended June 30, 2026. SFC recorded quarterly revenue of 47.8 billion won and an operating profit of 11.1 billion won, expanding total equity to 252.7 billion won against assets of 298.8 billion won.

Tokyo-listed Hodogaya Chemical is the majority owner of SFC with a 52.96% direct equity stake. The Japanese chemical producer controls 62.52% of total voting power when combining holdings across 24 affiliated entities and related parties.

Samsung Display is the second-largest shareholder with a 29.56% stake held through an investment partnership managed by Samsung Venture Investment. The display maker accounts for roughly 75.5% of SFC's total chemical sales.

DuPont represents the company's second-largest commercial buyer, drawing smaller volumes for advanced display applications. SFC management plans to use public offering proceeds to reduce dependence on its principal customer through broader product diversification.

SFC is the only domestic manufacturer in South Korea that mass-produces both blue hosts and blue dopants. Dopants are chemical additives that govern color purity and operational lifespan, while host molecules transfer electrical energy across the emissive layer.

Blue emitters present the highest technical barrier in the display industry because high photon energy accelerates molecular degradation. SFC supplies fluorescent blue formulations for commercial smartphones while engineering next-generation phosphorescent blue materials for laptops, tablets and automotive instrument clusters.

The chemical producer has also entered the semiconductor materials supply chain to broaden its revenue base. SFC secured registration as a tier-one supplier to a major semiconductor customer, delivering sample chemicals and conducting mass-production validation tests.

Patent exposure remains a key operational risk for prospective public investors. South Korea's Supreme Court ruled against SFC in May 2026, upholding the validity of a disputed OLED deuterium substitution technology patent owned by rival manufacturer LG Chem.

LG Chem is pursuing a separate civil lawsuit seeking 30 billion won in damages and an injunction against SFC's material production. SFC argues that any potential liability relates to historical shipments without affecting forward business continuity.

The company secured a legal victory in a separate dispute against SK Materials JNC on May 29, 2026. The Seoul Central District Court ordered the competitor to pay 100 million won for infringing SFC's polycyclic aromatic blue dopant patents.

Market analysts draw parallels to battery separator manufacturer WCP, the Korean affiliate of Japan's W-Scope that listed on the KOSPI in 2022. Because the parent trades in Tokyo, the listing avoids Korean regulatory scrutiny concerning domestic parent-subsidiary duplicate listings.

SFC will launch institutional investor presentations across Seoul and international financial centers next week, underwriter officials said. The management roadshow will test global institutional demand for specialized Asian display materials ahead of formal bookbuilding.

The company plans to complete institutional bookbuilding in mid-November and list on the KOSPI in late November 2026, with an option to extend into early December.

SFC has not yet submitted its formal securities registration statement to the Financial Services Commission, leaving the definitive price band, public subscription dates and final gross proceeds unconfirmed.
