Privacy policy
What East Asia Brief collects, why, and how to opt out.
What we collect
Our servers record standard technical information: pages requested, timestamps, referring page, browser and device type, and a truncated IP address. We use this to keep the site running and to understand which briefings are read.
Cookies and advertising
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.
- You may opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings.
- You can opt out of some third-party vendors' cookies at aboutads.info/choices and the NAI opt-out page.
- You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Doing so does not stop you reading the site.
Your choices under US state privacy laws
If you live in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia or another state with a comprehensive privacy law, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Email editor@eastasiabrief.com to exercise any of these rights. We will not discriminate against you for doing so.
Readers outside the United States
Our readers are international. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, our legal basis for processing technical log data is our legitimate interest in operating and securing the site; advertising cookies are set only where consent is required and given. You may contact us at the address above to exercise your rights under the GDPR or UK GDPR.
Children
East Asia Brief is written for a professional adult audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Newsletters
If you give us an email address for a newsletter, we use it to send that newsletter and nothing else. We do not sell email addresses. Every issue includes a one-click unsubscribe link.
Data retention and security
Server logs are retained for a limited period and then discarded. We take reasonable technical measures to protect the information we hold, though no internet service can promise perfect security.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we will note it on this page. Questions: editor@eastasiabrief.com.
