Vinatech wins $89M data center deal as Bloom Energy expands fuel cells

The 123 billion won agreement with Taiwan's AcBel Polytech covers supercapacitor equipment to buffer solid oxide fuel cells at server facilities facing severe electricity grid bottlenecks.

Vinatech signed a 123.01 billion won ($89 million) supply contract on Oct. 19, 2026, delivering data center supercapacitors to Taiwan power manufacturer AcBel Polytech Inc. to support rising fuel cell installations.

The transaction represents 149.60% of the South Korean manufacturer's 2025 consolidated revenue of 82.23 billion won. The single order exceeds the total sales recorded by the energy storage producer across all operating divisions last year.

AcBel Polytech will integrate the components into high-voltage direct current power supply racks destined for Bloom Energy server platforms. Bloom Energy manufactures solid oxide fuel cells, which generate base-load electricity directly at data center facilities bypassing regional utility queues.

South Korea's stock exchange authority temporarily halted trading in Vinatech shares following the disclosure in the afternoon on Oct. 19. The automated market pause complied with listing regulations governing transactions that exceed complete annual turnover.

Supercapacitors function as electrostatic energy storage devices that charge and discharge power within milliseconds. While chemical lithium-ion batteries hold far more total energy, supercapacitors discharge power at more than 100 times the speed of traditional battery cells.

Artificial intelligence computing clusters cause sudden voltage fluctuations when thousands of graphics processors execute distributed inference tasks simultaneously. These rapid power draw spikes trigger transient frequency drops across local electrical feeds.

Solid oxide fuel cells maintain high baseline electrical efficiency but cannot adjust electrochemical output fast enough during microsecond power surges. Vinatech supplies snap-in capacitors that bridge the gap by releasing instantaneous bursts of stored current before server voltages drop.

The Taiwan agreement marks Vinatech's second contract with AcBel Polytech following a 38.36 billion won order booked in July. Deliveries under the new agreement begin on Oct. 16, 2026, and continue across 15 months through Feb. 1, 2028.

Global server operators are deploying on-site generation because utility interconnection queues in major American technology hubs extend beyond five years. Bloom Energy secured more than $20 billion in backlogged generation equipment orders from cloud companies seeking dedicated power.

Bloom Energy previously relied on external electronics assemblers to package discrete capacitor cells. Vinatech established direct vendor qualification on June 30, 2026, booking a separate 41.2 billion won contract to supply integrated supercapacitor enclosures directly to the fuel cell maker.

The transition to assembled enclosures and modules has expanded commercial realization beyond basic cell supply. Finished power modules carry proprietary circuit control boards that command substantially higher sales margins than standalone passive components.

Vinatech has accumulated five data center power supply contracts totaling roughly 229 billion won since late June. The order intake cohort includes two system awards from global contract manufacturer Sanmina Corporation valued at 13.1 billion won and 13.3 billion won.

The sudden concentration of overseas orders has forced Vinatech to accelerate construction of its centralized production campus in Hung Yen, Vietnam. The 172,000-square-meter facility replaces three decentralized plants situated around Hanoi to streamline manufacturing flows.

Vinatech had originally targeted a quarterly production run-rate of 7 million large-format snap-in capacitor cells by December. Surging off-grid fuel cell hardware commitments prompted the company to lift its fourth-quarter operating target to 15 million units.

The expanded Vietnamese campus will provide approximately 300 billion won in total annual manufacturing output once initial production stabilizes. The company funded automated cleanrooms and winding lines by issuing 63 billion won in convertible debt instruments earlier this year.

Tooling additions follow operational disruptions sustained during the second quarter when an industrial fire damaged Vinatech's older plant in Bac Giang. The incident generated 29.8 billion won in non-operating property losses and depressed factory operating ratios through September.

Management elected not to reinstall equipment at the damaged facility, instead shifting high-capacity module assembly machinery straight into the new Hung Yen structures. Hung Yen Plant 1 completed structural commissioning in August and initiated pilot processing this month.

Vinatech also manufactures carbon catalyst supports and membrane electrode assemblies for proton-exchange fuel cells at its headquarters complex in Wanju, South Korea. Domestic sales of stationary building cells contracted during 2025, shifting near-term corporate capital deployment entirely toward power capacitors.

The regulatory filing does not disclose any capital allocation for solid oxide fuel cell electrode or membrane electrode assembly lines, confirming the order covers supercapacitors alone.

The supply contract with AcBel Polytech remains active through Feb. 1, 2028, with initial volume shipments scheduled to clear Vietnamese customs before the end of the year.
