Applied Manufacturing Technologies recirculated technical specifications for its Maverick collaborative palletizing cell on Sept. 26, 2026, pairing Japan's FANUC CRX-30iA industrial robot arm with turnkey packaging controls.

The standardized packaging system carries a starting price of $120,000. It targets capital payback within 12 months for consumer goods, food processing and warehousing facilities facing persistent shop-floor labor shortages.

Each automated cell uses a six-axis FANUC CRX-30iA robotic arm providing a 30-kilogram payload capacity and a 1,889-millimeter reach. The mechanical arm handles stacking rates of up to 12 picks per minute.

Traditional end-of-line palletizing cells require permanent safety fences and light curtains that consume roughly 150 square feet of warehouse space. The collaborative configuration eliminates peripheral protective fencing entirely.

The CRX-30iA arm uses contact-stop sensors and power-and-force limiting safety mechanisms certified under international safety standards. When an operator contacts the arm, the motion controller stops all axis drives instantly without physical injury.

FANUC designed the mechanical joints with an ingress protection rating of IP67 across all six axes. The sealed structure withstands industrial washdowns and heavy dust accumulation common in high-throughput beverage bottling plants.

Applied Manufacturing Technologies integrated its proprietary Maverick human-machine interface directly with the robot controller. Operators configure palletizing patterns and case dimensions on an industrial touchscreen without writing software code.

Ease of use was our top priority, said Ben Kurth, director of engineering at AMT. Users can quickly input case dimensions, select a pallet pattern, and begin operation, Kurth said.

The Michigan-based systems integrator first published details of the CRX-30iA packaging cell on May 29, 2025. Packaging trade publications redistributed the original technical release across packaging distribution channels on Sept. 26, 2026.

The two automation companies previously staged live demonstrations of the system at the Automate trade show in Chicago between June 22 and June 25, 2026. That demonstration featured mixed-load case handling and depalletizing routines.

AMT has engineered more than 25,000 automation systems globally across its 37-year operational history. The integrator holds Level V authorization from FANUC, the highest ranking in the Japanese robot maker's North American partner network.

FANUC Corporation manufactures the CRX series alongside industrial servo motors and computer numerical control units at its Yamanashi factories. Non-automotive sectors such as food packaging generate roughly 40% of global industrial robot shipments.

Collaborative robots historically carried payloads below 10 kilograms, restricting their deployment to light electronic assembly and inspection. The 30-kilogram payload class allows direct handling of heavy beverage cases and multi-pack consumer goods.

The complete Maverick cell mounts on a mobile structural steel base plate designed for standard forklift transport. Plant technicians can relocate the cell between packaging lines during product changeovers within two hours.

The internal joints rely on precision strain-wave gear reducers and high-resolution absolute optical encoders. These drive components maintain repeatable tool-center positioning within 0.04 millimeters during continuous eight-hour operating shifts.

FANUC engineered the CRX drive system to operate without periodic lubrication or grease replacement for eight consecutive years. That design eliminates routine scheduled maintenance stoppages for end-of-line logistics hubs.

Manual case palletizing accounts for frequent repetitive-strain injury claims in logistics warehouses, where workers lift up to 20 metric tons per shift. The automated arm transfers cases onto standard pallets up to 60 inches high.

The system supports dual-pallet docking configurations for continuous operation. While an operator or autonomous mobile robot removes a completed pallet from one station, the robot continues stacking cartons on the opposing station.

For food packaging environments, FANUC supplies a specialized variant using NSF-H1 registered food-grade greases and chemical-resistant white epoxy paint. This surface finish withstands caustic cleaning agents during daily sanitary washdown routines.

Conventional industrial palletizers rely on specialized robot programming languages such as FANUC Karel or Teach Pendant syntax. The Maverick interface replaces complex code with touch-based pattern generation, automatically calculating collision-free motion paths across all six axes.

For manufacturing buyers, the $120,000 base capital outlay displaces two operating shifts of manual palletizing labor. Factoring in electrical power draw and basic pneumatic maintenance, calculated cell operating expenses run below $6 per hour.

The Sept. 26, 2026 technical release does not state whether AMT modified any electrical controls, sensor packages or mechanical gripper hardware relative to its May 2025 baseline system.

Packaging machinery distributors conclude annual equipment evaluation programs on Nov. 15, 2026, ahead of capital expenditure budget approvals for the first half of 2027.
