Samkee Energy Solutions said Oct. 20 that its North American unit secured a $74.4 million contract to supply timing chain covers for hybrid engines to a global automaker.

The agreement tasks subsidiary Samkee America with delivering an average of 380,000 covers annually through Dec. 2030. The components will feed assembly lines for hybrid turbo engines built in North America.

The 99.5 billion won deal expands an existing manufacturing order book that began in August 2025 with a $211.56 million award for low crankcases. Together, the two supply programs commit more than $285 million in localized hybrid engine hardware through 2033.

Timing chain covers seal the forward face of an engine block to shield moving timing components and retain engine lubricating oil. The die-cast aluminum housing must endure sustained thermal stress and engine vibration during continuous vehicle operation.

Low crankcases serve as structural foundations that reinforce the lower cylinder block and stabilize rotating crankshafts. Both components require high-pressure aluminum die casting to withstand the torque spikes generated by hybrid turbocharged engines.

Samkee America runs the manufacturing program from its production site in Tuskegee, Alabama. The parent company established the Macon County plant in 2023 with an initial $128 million capital investment to serve assembly hubs across the southern automotive corridor.

Plant technicians in Alabama have installed the primary die-casting machinery required for the timing chain cover lines. The company will complete equipment installation before the end of 2026, company officials said.

Commercial mass production will begin in March 2027 after line stabilization and initial customer tooling trials conclude. Deliveries will run for 46 consecutive months under the current delivery schedule.

The new manufacturing award reflects shifting production plans among major carmakers in the North American passenger market. Vehicle manufacturers are expanding hybrid and plug-in hybrid production capacity as consumer uptake of purely battery-electric models slows.

That powertrain rebalancing has forced automakers to secure additional domestic combustion castings within the United States. Sourcing rules and logistics costs encourage manufacturers to award hybrid component contracts to casting facilities already operating near southeastern assembly plants.

The Tuskegee plant sits along Interstate 85 within shipping distance of major assembly hubs in Montgomery, Alabama, and West Point, Georgia. Proximity reduces freight expenses and shortens lead times for bulky powertrain die castings.

Samkee Energy Solutions previously operated under the name Samkee EV before rebranding to reflect a broader automotive and storage portfolio. The company trades on the Kosdaq market under the ticker symbol 419050.

The group manufactures battery management components alongside its combustion casting operations. It produces flexible printed circuit board connectors designed to route voltage sensing data from cell modules to central controllers.

Samkee Energy Solutions supplies those flexible printed circuit connectors to an LG Energy Solution manufacturing site in the United States. The Korean parts maker holds a registered United States patent for the proprietary connector configuration.

The company is currently negotiating supply pricing for flat circuit board harnesses used in battery storage systems for artificial intelligence data centers, company executives said. Surging electricity demand from server clusters has accelerated utility-scale storage procurement across North America.

Affiliate company Samkee Corp. is also redirecting precision die-casting assets toward robotics manufacturing. The engineering unit is developing structural torso frames, leg assemblies and actuator enclosures for commercial humanoid robots under joint technical development programs.

The supplier did not name the purchasing carmaker in its public announcement, citing non-disclosure terms in the supply agreement. The regulatory filing system in Seoul shows no separate public disclosure because the contract was awarded directly to an unlisted overseas subsidiary.

The timing chain cover ramp-up in March 2027 follows the start of low crankcase deliveries scheduled for October 2026 under the prior contract. Both production schedules will run concurrently at Tuskegee through at least 2030.

Samkee America will begin validation runs on the Tuskegee machining cells during the first quarter of 2027 before volume shipments start that March. The Alabama plant will then operate dual hybrid casting lines for crankcases and covers simultaneously.
