European energy storage integrators including Germany’s Intilion, the Netherlands’ Alfen and Finland’s Merus Power accelerated moves on Oct. 9, 2026 to deploy CATL’s sodium-ion battery systems across the continent by 2027.

The shift signals the first large commercial adoption of sodium chemistry outside China. Integrators are moving to protect utility-scale battery projects from raw lithium price spikes and maintain storage operations during freezing northern winters.
