BYD began shipping its second-generation Seal 07 sedan to retail dealerships across China on Oct. 30, 2026, launching an aggressive mid-size vehicle offensive ahead of official commercial sales.

The new model expands BYD's Ocean product lineup to counter softening domestic deliveries. Showroom distribution across provincial networks prepares company stores for customer test drives and early reservation handoffs, according to Chinese dealer notices.

Regulatory filings with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology show the long-range pure electric variant carries an 88.682-kilowatt-hour battery pack weighing 618.6 kilograms. That traction battery pack accounts for 30% of the sedan's total curb weight.

The 88.682-kilowatt-hour pack uses lithium iron phosphate chemistry under BYD's second-generation Blade design. The pack delivers an electric driving range of 875 kilometers under the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle, ministry records show.

European testing equivalents place that driving endurance at approximately 718 kilometers under the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure. A single rear electric motor produces 300 kilowatts, equivalent to 402 horsepower.

The ministry catalog lists a maximum vehicle speed of 240 kilometers per hour for the high-output version. BYD claims the updated battery architecture can achieve a full charging cycle in nine minutes under optimal conditions.

A secondary pure electric variant uses a smaller 76.744-kilowatt-hour battery pack weighing 539 kilograms, representing 28% of curb weight. It connects to a 245-kilowatt motor producing 329 horsepower and provides 775 kilometers of certified domestic range.

Alongside the battery-electric models, BYD is dispatching plug-in hybrid versions equipped with fifth-generation DM technology. The hybrid pairs a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine rated at 115 kilowatts with a 160-kilowatt electric drive motor.

The hybrid variant relies on a 38.029-kilowatt-hour battery pack, the ministry notice said. That capacity provides a pure electric driving range of 245 kilometers under standard light-duty test cycles.

Dimensional expansion shifts the second-generation vehicle into executive sedan proportions. The chassis measures 5,080 millimeters long, 1,960 millimeters wide and 1,495 millimeters tall, riding on a 2,960-millimeter wheelbase.

Those exterior proportions represent an increase of 85 millimeters in body length and 50 millimeters in width over the predecessor. The platform wheelbase grew by 60 millimeters, expanding rear cabin room.

Cargo capacity includes a 618-liter rear luggage compartment. The pure electric version adds a 160-liter front trunk, whereas the hybrid version omits front storage to accommodate the internal combustion engine.

The product transition arrives after an abrupt volume contraction for the outgoing nameplate. Deliveries across the Seal 07 line slipped to 624 units in September, according to figures compiled by China EV DataTracker.

Plug-in hybrid sales dropped 54.8% month-on-month to 296 units during September as buyers held off for the redesign. Pure electric deliveries eased 3.5% over the same period to 328 units.

The outgoing electric lineup sold between 169,900 yuan and 189,900 yuan ($25,500 to $28,500). Outgoing plug-in hybrid variants retailed between 149,800 yuan and 186,800 yuan ($22,500 to $28,000).

Internal dealer allocation notices indicate a provisional billing benchmark of 180,000 yuan ($25,250) for incoming inventory. Dealer management emphasized that wholesale transfer sums do not reflect consumer transaction prices at launch.

The revised sedan intensifies competitive pressure on Tesla in China's mid-size sedan market. Tesla manufactures the Model 3 at Gigafactory Shanghai, where the rear-wheel-drive base configuration lists at 231,900 yuan ($32,500).

The Model 3 captured roughly 28% of China's premium mid-size electric sedan volume during the third quarter. BYD's preliminary dealer allocation benchmark undercuts that baseline price by approximately 22%.

Domestic electric vehicle makers Geely and Xpeng also face margin strain in the 200,000-yuan corridor. Extended driving ranges and larger packaging allow BYD to target legacy executive fleets alongside retail buyers.

The regulatory filings do not state retail pricing tiers across specific equipment grades, and BYD has not published shipping schedules for export markets outside mainland China.

BYD scheduled the formal commercial launch and retail pricing announcement for Nov. 5, 2026. Customer handoffs across regional dealer networks will begin later that month, dealer managers said.
