BYD's personalized off-road division Fangchengbao confirmed development of its Tai 6 sport utility vehicle on Nov. 7, 2026, anchoring a broader product roadmap through 2027.

Division General Manager Xiong Tianbo announced the program during the brand's inaugural FormulaClub owner gathering. She stated that the compact boxy vehicle, spotted during road testing in September, will reach commercial assembly next year.

Fangchengbao models sell at an average transaction price exceeding 220,000 yuan ($30,800). That premium tier delivered nearly 400,000 units across BYD's luxury sub-brands in 2025, generating roughly 9% of total group sales volume.

The product roadmap formalizes BYD's drive to expand beyond mass-market passenger cars into high-margin outdoor categories. The company is using proprietary structural packs and dedicated power electronics to take market share from legacy combustion four-wheel drives.

Xiong also confirmed that Fangchengbao will unveil the Formula SL in 2027. The vehicle is an extended-wheelbase electric executive sedan in the Formula S product family, which debuted at the Beijing Auto Show earlier this year.

The sedan expansion complements Fangchengbao's off-road footprint rather than replacing it. The unit is pursuing a bifurcated portfolio that pairs urban performance sedans with specialized rugged SUVs and electrified utility pickups.

The brand's short-term production schedule centers on the full-size Tai 9 sport utility vehicle. Xiong said the flagship plug-in hybrid will launch commercially in late November 2026, entering the 400,000-yuan premium family vehicle segment.

Regulatory filings published by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology list the Tai 9 at 5,270 mm in length with a 3,130 mm wheelbase. The six-seat vehicle has a gross vehicle weight rating of 3,495 kg.

The Tai 9 debuts BYD's new DMS platform, engineered specifically for load-bearing hybrid chassis. That architecture differs from the ladder-frame Dual Mode Off-road platform, known as DMO, which underpins the heavier Bao 5 and Bao 8 sport utility vehicles.

BYD's wholly owned battery subsidiary FinDreams supplies 100% of the cells for the Tai 9. The model carries a 66.48 kWh lithium iron phosphate Blade pack, which delivers 310 km of pure electric range under Chinese testing standards.

The powertrain pairs a 1.5-liter turbocharged combustion engine generating 115 kW with two permanent magnet motors. The front and rear electric drive units each produce 200 kW of peak output, delivering combined all-wheel traction.

FinDreams books roughly 78% of its total traction battery output internally through BYD assembly lines. Supplying high-capacity packs to specialized Fangchengbao models shields the battery arm from merchant pricing declines across China's crowded lithium cell sector.

The high-voltage pack integrates directly into the frame structure using cell-to-chassis packaging. That design raises torsional rigidity while sealing the cells against water and rock impacts during rough trail driving.

Specialized off-road driving requires sustained current discharge without thermal degradation. BYD addresses that hurdle by linking high-discharge blade cells directly to liquid-cooling circuits integrated into the structural crossmembers of the chassis.

Following the Tai 9 introduction, Fangchengbao will launch the Shark plug-in hybrid pickup truck in China in December 2026. BYD first launched the pickup in Mexico in May 2024 before completing Chinese market homologation this July.

The commercial rollouts aim to offset delivery bottlenecks that slowed customer handovers in October. Xiong acknowledged the shortfall on Nov. 1, committing manufacturing lines to higher shifts throughout November and December.

For long-range product planning, Fangchengbao confirmed that the Formula X pure electric roadster remains scheduled for release in 2027. The two-seater showcases BYD's quad-motor torque vectoring hardware on a carbon-fiber structure.

The Tai 6 will enter volume assembly directly below the larger Tai 7 SUV. Camouflage photographs show a five-seat layout with roof-mounted lidar hardware, pointing toward urban navigation assist capabilities alongside off-road clearance.

The division did not publish battery pack capacities, motor specifications or pricing for the upcoming Tai 6. The company also declined to disclose planned annual manufacturing volumes for the model at its Changsha or Shenzhen assembly plants.

The immediate calendar milestone remains the commercial showroom launch of the Tai 9 after Nov. 15, 2026, followed by initial nationwide deliveries of the Shark pickup truck before Dec. 31, 2026.
