The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative and China's Ministry of Commerce moved Oct. 1, 2026, to restore most-favored-nation tariffs on $30 billion of consumer goods, eroding Southeast Asia's nearshoring cost advantage.

The bilateral framework covers approximately 80 U.S. tariff lines spanning toys, tableware and small household appliances. Over 90% of the designated categories will revert to standard single-digit World Trade Organization rates under 10%.
